Unqualified foods
came from 34 countries or regions. Products from Japan, 19 batches, were the most, followed by Vietnam and India, with 18 batches and 14 batches respectively. The unqualified products involved candy, jelly, beverages, instant noodle, seafood, juice, coffee, nuts etc.

The foods refused for entry did not comply with China’s laws and regulations. The main reasons of rejection were microbial contamination (the most), unqualified labels, failure to provide certificates or certification materials as required, failure to obtain inspection and quarantine access. In addition, some foods have been found to use nutrient fortifiers beyond the scope, exceed the expiration date, food additive use problems, inconsistencies in the certificate, contain ingredients that have not been quarantined, detect non-edible additives, detect unlabeled genetically modified ingredients, excessive pesticide residues, and other problems.

Statistics also show that Tianjin Port detected the largest number of unqualified foods, with 26 batches.

In addition, 6 batches of cosmetics were not allowed to enter the country, of which 2 products from Germany (unqualified labels failure to provide certificates or certification materials as required), 2 products came from Spain (The detection of boric acid component) and 2 batches of lotions from Taiwan, China (exceed the total number of molds and yeasts).

The above-mentioned unqualified foods and cosmetics had been returned or destroyed at ports, according to GACC.
